Cana

Significado
The name Cana likely derives from the Hebrew Qanah and means place of reeds, or rushes. It was there that Jesus performed his first miraculous sign, turning water into wine during a wedding.
Sobre o lugar

Cana was a small village in Lower Galilee, located near Nazareth, the town where Jesus grew up and lived before beginning his public ministry.

It was there that he performed the first of the miraculous signs recorded in the Gospel of John: he turned water into wine during a wedding celebration, in response to the request of his mother, Mary (John 2:1-11).

The Gospel emphasizes that this sign revealed his glory and led his disciples to believe in him, the beginning of his public work.

Shortly afterward, Jesus returned to Cana. There, without traveling to Capernaum, he healed a royal official’s son from a distance simply by his word (John 4:46-54).

The Gospel also records that Nathanael, one of Jesus’ disciples, was from Cana (John 21:2).

Cana was neither a religious nor a political center. It was an ordinary place, of weddings and everyday life, but it was there that Jesus chose to reveal who he was for the first time.

This shows something constant in his ministry: the glory of Jesus did not depend on grand stages. It appeared at simple celebrations, in ordinary families, in everyday requests for help.

O lugar hoje
O lugar hoje

A identificação exata do local é incerta.
